Celebrating Caribbean American Heritage
June is National Caribbean American Heritage Month.
The month of June is nationally recognized as Caribbean American Heritage Month in the U.S. The year 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of the month-long celebration.
National Caribbean American Heritage Month began in 2005 after the U.S House of Representatives passed a resolution acknowledging the impact of Caribbean people and their descendants in U.S. history and culture. The campaign to create the event was driven by Claire Nelson, founder and president of the Institute of Caribbean Studies.
