La Calavera Catrina
A figurine resembling La Calavera Catrina is used to celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on November 1 and 2.
Feliz Día de los Muertos
On November 1–2 people throughout Mexico will honor their dead loved ones.
Although often linked to Halloween, the Day of the Dead is a time when death is celebrated, not feared. During the two days of festivities, people don skull masks, decorate graves, and build altars, all to honor dead loved ones and make peace with the eventuality of death. While observed in various Latin American countries, it is most commonly associated with Mexico, where the holiday was derived from the rituals of pre-Hispanic peoples.
